The VW Beetle is the new Hot Chick-mobile

If you still remember Mandy Moore's debut music video “Candy”, you will notice (aside from her awkward dance moves and skinny 16-year-old body frame) that she's sporting a green Beetle Convertible. It was the perfect car for her-and every chick who seems to think that they're hot.

In chick flicks such as the 2002 hit “Hot Chick”, Jessica, the hot chick who becomes Rob Schneider, drives a yellow Beetle Convertible, and in 2004, girl next door Elisha Cuthbert drives an aquarius blue Beetle Convertible for the movie “The Girl Next Door”.

Such a trend became advantageous for the New Beetle (as if it needs further advertisement) because it gave the Beetle a new look, as the new chick-mobile.

The New Beetle is a compact car introduced by Volkswagen in 1998, drawing heavily on the design cues of the original Beetle. Based on a Volkswagen Golf, the “retro” design proved to be more successful in some markets than in others. It is assembled at the VW Puebla factory in Mexico. The big contrast between the New Beetle and the Classic Beetle is that, like most cars, the New Beetle has the engine in front and storage in the back.

This ride has instantly become a household name-thanks to its predecessor. But why is it so cute when a hot chick is driving it? We don't really see hunky actors in hunky action movies driving them...but nevertheless, the New Beetle has become synonymous to the word Hot Chick. So if you think you're one, then drive one.

The New Beetle also hit the small screen as aides to TV damsels such as Brooke Davis, Sophia Bush's character in One Tree Hill who drives an aquarius blue Convertible, and Paige, Rose McGowan's character in Charmed used 2002, 1998, and 2004 Beetles during the 5 seasons that she's in.

Catch the New Beetle in action with men in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Fight Club.
